My application with the newspaper office

Guys, this was my application for the Texas A&M college newspaper 'The Battalion'.

Why do you want to work for The Battalion and what do you hope to accomplish?

What experience do you have that relates to the position for which you are applying?

What changes do you feel would improve the quality of the Battalion?

Q: Why do you want to work for the Battalion?

A: Because I want to.

Q: Everybody wants to.

A: I know, so do I.

Q: Then, let’s hire anyone walking down the street…

A: Sure, he/she would be worthy enough. So am I.

Q: So, why should we consider you?

A: I carry a new style of writing.

Q: Almost everybody has.

A: You can browse my work.

Q: What’s so special in your work?

A: It’s pertinent. It’s honest. And it hits.

Q: mmm…?

A: I bring a fresh perspective from the East where life and likes are totally and inherently different from the West. Humor varies and so does the food. There, pretty girls don’t drive buses, don’t have many 7 ft. tall people, neither 6 ft. tall girls, we shop on busy streets. Ebay? No.

Jenna Jameson is a star here, kids dream of being the president and young people make out in the bars. We do on the terrace.

East and West together is a lethal combination for a writer.

Q: ehm...

A: I want people here to appreciate the freedom they enjoy. I want to write as an Opinion or Entertainment/Feature columnist. It would an honor to work for Battalion.

Q: Any background in writing?

A: Me :Writing :: Paris Hilton: Controversy

I just love writing.

Making up new styles of writing.

Playing with words.

Analyzing people and moments.

It’s so much fun.

Q: Any suggestive changes in The Battalion?

A: The current guys do a polished job. It’s a huge campus. A divers campus. All students look forward to reading Battalion. And they write wonderful.

Given a choice, I would prefer all columnists – news, feature, tech, sports, graphic and especially cartoonists to have a peek at each other’s articles before sending to print. It sort of starts to connect all the articles at a broad level and the newspaper starts looking like a family. Cartoonists and the sports writer can combine their articles on the game day (Coach Fran’s nightmare) or entertainment and opinion writers can do the same on eve of the Oscars. Strategic combinations is what I suggest.

We can also invite the readers to send in their favorite photographs and we can allocate a particular section to it. It would encourage more interest from students and we could be in line for some funny ones. YouTube is a great example.

We could also commence a ‘Traveleisure’ section to invite students sending in their humorous travel experiences. I’m sure we’ll have our hands full.

We can also play with the format of the newspaper.

Q: Right, we would consider your application and inform you of the outcome.

A: Thanks. But I had real fun in writing this conversation out.

Q: What?
